Telecommunication Facility Electrical & SGP Upgrade.

Ryan Wilks was engaged by a telecommunications provider to undertake major electrical infrastructure and building works to meet facility functional and BCA upgrade and expansion requirements. The project included the decommissioning of two existing generators and fuel systems that had surpassed their serviceability and end-of-life and replace them with two larger, more efficient, and reliable generators and fuel and ventilation systems.

This initiative was crucial for enhancing the site operational efficiency and reliability, reducing maintenance costs and ensuring an ongoing uninterrupted power supply to the site and allow for future expansion. Included within the facilities expansion and upgrade requirements Ryan Wilks constructed a new 2-hour fire rated battery and UPS room, complete with fire rated ceiling, ducted exhaust fan and air conditioning.

An external high level plant deck was constructed adjacent to the existing plant deck to allow new air handling units to be installed, units were installed as part of a POD expansion project undertaken on the site. A new 2 hour fire rated main switchboard room was also constructed to allow installation of a new site main switchboard capable of meeting future power supply demands.

With the enlargement of the existing generator room complete, a new exhaust air plenum was constructed, new dual supply air fans and generators were installed into the generator room, The generator replacement and improvement being further enhanced with the installation of a new dedicated generator switchboard and mobile generator connection point.

These works were undertaken in a controlled and detailed manner to ensure minimal impact on the building occupants and in accordance with the stringent site and dust management protocols required at the facility. Site operational functionality was maintained throughout the construction works with no impact to the facility or stakeholders.

The project required strict adherence to the telecommunications providers strict access requirements with all contractors and personnel involved being required to comply with the facilities robust access and WHS protocols. All works were completed within required project time frame and to the satisfaction of the client with no impact to ongoing facility operation.
