Mainfreight Prestons – 1000Kva Generator Installation
In July 2015, Ryan Wilks were awarded a contract by Mainfreight to install a new 1MW Standby Generator System at their Prestons facility β 50 Yarrawa St Prestons NSW 2170. The 1MW Generator, ATS and 1000 Litre External Bulk Fuel Tank were free issued to Ryan Wilks by Mainfreight who purchased the components direct from MOSA Australia, the supplier and manufacturer.
The scope of our works included the strip out of the existing Generator Room including the removal of the existing Generator, fuel tank and system, Battery Charger, exhaust ductwork, lighting and power. Mainfreight arranged the demolition of the existing Generator Room to allow room for the new 1MW Generator to be installed in itβs final position, external to the building. The Generator was delivered to site in a shipping container. Ryan Wilks arranged for 2 x Franner cranes to move the Generator from the container to the agreed final position.
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
The existing Generator submains were re-routed and connected to the New Generator. New Auxilliary power supplies were installed for the water jacket heaters and battery charger. The 1000 Litre Bulk fuel tank was installed adjacent to the Generator and New Fuel Pipe Lines were installed and connected from the tank to the Generator. To protect the Generator from vehicles, Ryan Wilks installed 15 off new structural bollards around the Generator and Bulk fuel tank. Inside the building, the ATS was installed in the Store Room backing onto the Main switch Room.
An after hours power outage and cutover was arranged and the existing cabling at the now redundant ATS within the Main Switch Room was disconnected. Some of the existing cabling was able to be re-used, however, some new cabling was required due to the existing cables being too short to divert to the new ATS.
Final Commissioning of the Standby Generator system was conducted by MOSA Australia with Ryan Wilks assisting and Mainfreight in attendance, on Saturday 5th December 2015.
