Hospital Electrical Infrastructure Upgrade
Ryan Wilks successfully completed the Electrical infrastructure upgrade at a Western Sydney Hospital amidst the challenges posed by COVID-19 restrictions. The project maintained full hospital operations and complied with all Australian standards, including AS/NZS 3003:2018 for electrical installations in patient areas.
The upgrade comprised the installation of three new main switchboards, connection to a new substation, replacement of 42 distribution boards, and installation of submain cables and cable support systems throughout the main corridors. Additionally, it involved setting up a new UPS network, establishing data and power networks for the Electronic Medical Record (eMR) system, and implementing two temporary backup generators to support critical loads during the transition to new electrical services. Integration of all new equipment into the site’s Building Management System (BMS) was ensured.
The meticulous planning and execution of these tasks required obtaining 170 approval notices and implementing temporary power and lighting arrangements while prioritizing the safety of patients, visitors, contractors, and staff during 50 carefully orchestrated shutdowns.
This upgraded power infrastructure now provides the hospital with a dependable and technologically advanced system that is ready to support its needs in critical situations.
