Fairfield Hospital – Generator Upgrade
The existing standby power generating system was upgraded requiring the replacement of the existing 600kVA generating set, generator switchboard and local fuel system with a 1500kVA generating set, generator switchboard and extended fuel system.
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
The project involved the in-depth survey, design and construction of the new generator all associated services to electrically supply the existing Main Switch Board via a new Generator MSB. The project survey works encompassed a detailed assessment of the integrity of the emergency electrical infrastructure form end to end, including visual, generator feasibility assessment and report documentation for integration into the design.
Ryan Wilks completed a detailed design for the replacement of the generator and services, fuel system, supplies to essential services, Fire Rated containment systems, discrimination review of the main switchboard and generator main switchboard.
The construction works included new generator, generator main switchboard, ATS’s, generator control and supply modifications, cabling and containment, generator auxiliary panel, fuel system, building modifications associated with the electrical works, generator load migration.
The construction was challenging exercise due to integration into the Hospitals essential services over numerous outages. Ryan Wilks completed the works in controlled and planned outages with no impact to the operations of the facility. All distribution boards were surveyed for their critical nature and in most cases provided new permanent mobile generator supply connection points ahead of the planned cutover works.
The cutovers and staging of works required detailed planning for the assurance of Fairfield Hospital and its patients. This was achieved through hour by hour programs, in depth methods of procedure documentation, temporary supplies and generators, out of hours’ cutovers and detailed staging.
